About

Because it is at the tip of the Eastern Shore peninsula, the refuge falls within a major avian migration funnel. Enjoy biking and hiking on the 5-mile-long paved trail or follow the Butterfly Trail to a WWII cannon and marsh overlook. You can access the Refuge from the Southern Gateway Welcome Center by foot, or you can drive in via Seaside Road and park on the refuge. There is also a refuge welcome center that is open limited hours. Launch your boat or your kayak out of the Wise Point boat ramp! The kayak launch is free and the boat ramp has a small fee.
